Global Warming - Be Energy Efficient At Home!

Harrowing effects of Global Warming

Global warming, or increase in global temperature, is expected to cause a rise in sea level and change the quantity and pattern of precipitation.  This could lead to an increase in the size of subtropical deserts. It is also expected that glaciers, permafrost and sea ice will shrink, just like the Amazon rainforest and other forests are expected to.  There will be an increase in the intensity of extreme weather events.  Agriculture will be adversely affected and there could also be species’ extinction.

Save the Earth from Global Warming

Is it Something that Happened Out-of-the-Blue

Global warming, the much hyped issue is nothing but another phase in the changes and evolution which are a continuous process and our Earth has gone through many times over.  It went through the Jurassic age, the Ice Age, the Stone Age and here we are at a point in the evolution of the Earth and the universe where global warming is pushing everything to a new frontier never experienced by man in the available historic evidence.

Though this change is inevitable, there are a few things we can do to give our Earth sufficient chance to recover from the damage or at least slow down the process.  Let us look at what we can do in our daily life towards this end.

What can be Done to Retard Global Warming

The easiest, cheapest, smartest, fastest and safest way to curb global warming is to use energy efficiently.  Here’s what you can do to be energy efficient.

  1. Use compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL) instead of incandescent ones.  Even if you change one bulb, it is big time energy saving.  Do it.
  2. Lights that detect motion and turn themselves on when needed should be installed outdoors.  This will ensure that you do not need to leave the light on outside all night.
  3. Switch off lights when you leave a room
  4. Switch off all appliances from the wall socket when you are not using them.
  5. Reduce the water flow of the shower in your bathrooms by installing a low-flow shower head.
  6. When the weather is good, keep windows open.
  7. Wear appropriate clothes to combat the weather rather than rely on cooling and heating your home.
  8. Rooms that use cooling or heating should be well sealed to prevent the warm or cool air from escaping.
  9. Use energy efficient appliances.  Check the energy saver stars before buying an appliance.
  10. Defrost your fridge often to make it more efficient.
  11. Work your washing machines on full load and if the day is warm, only semi-dry the clothes before putting them on the wash line.

Glad for the thought that we can atleast do something to protect ourselves from this inevitable effect of nature.

An article a little different from those posted all over the net. You are doing good work. Keep it up!

thanx for the precice and meanigful info which my students can greatly benefit from while doing their project on the topic.

Very good and informative article. This way we can save the energy which can save the global warming and thus our earth can also be saved.

An article with something different material. Very useful information.

It seems that we are a bit serious about saving our earth, but I don’t think that other countries are also so much serious about it, especially the developed countries are not so much concerned about it. A joint effort is always required to retard them.

A very nice article and informative.

Good one to hear.

Don’t miss this Great opportunity
