Top 5 Sports Icon!
Whom will you include as the top 5 sports icon? I think the list is too big and selecting only five from them is a bit difficult task. Check the top 5 sports icon from all over the globe:
1. David Beckham: I think Beckham is the most popular sport icon of the world. His full name is David Robert Joseph Beckham, and he is a class midfielder of the England football team. He is presently playing for an Italian club Milan from 7th January 2009. Beckham is the world’s highest paid footballer in year 2004, while he was the runner up for the Fifa World Player of the year twice. He was the first football player from England who played 100 Champions League matches.
Beckham started his career as a professional football player at the age of 17 with Manchester United in 1992. While, he was in the team, MU won the Premier League title for six times. Later on Beckham joined Real Madrid in 2003. His marriage to the Victoria, the former Spice Girl, brought them to the top of the popularity in Europe.
2. Tiger Woods: Whenever you think about sport this name will come in your mind. Tiger Woods, is the world number one in Golf, he is the professional American Golfer. His full name is Eldrick Tont “Tiger” Woods, and he was born in Cypress, California on 30th December, 1975. He was the highest paid athlete in the year 2007. His wife Elin Nordegren was a Swedish model.
3. Sachin Tendulkar: He is one type of cricketing God in India. Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar is in fact the world’s most popular cricket player. He was born on 24th April 1973 in Mumbai, India and he joined the Indian national cricket team at the age of 16 years. He was the only player who scores century on his debut in Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy and Irani Trophy. He currently holds the world record of making highest runs in both the format (Tests and ODI) of cricket. He has scored more than 12K runs in test matches while more than 16K in ODI’s.
Australian leg spinner Shane Warne considers Sachin Tendulkar as the greatest player he has played through out his life, either with or against. Sachin married Anjali, a doctor in the year 1995. He is truly the India’s most popular person.
4. Pete Sampras: He was the King of Swing. Petros “Pete” Sampras was born on 12th August 1971, and was the World’s number one tennis player from United States. He is the record winner of 14 Grand Slam Men’s Singles title, which includes seven Wimbledon along with two Australian Open and five US Opens. He has an impressive winning record of 203 matches out of the 241 appearance in the men’s single Grand Slams. In the year 2000 Sampras married the American actress Bridgette Wilson.
5. Muhammad Ali: He was the three time former World Heavyweight Champion. He was born in Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. and played as a boxer in America. His fighting style was unique and he described it as “Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee”. It is not clear that who is the best heavyweight boxer of all time, but many people consider him as the best. Even the Ring Magazine which is a prominent magazine on boxing, named him as the greatest heavyweights from all eras.
These are the top five sports persons of the world, whom I consider as the Sports Icon. All of them are having a controversy free social image and not only their country feel pride for them, while entire world feel proud about them.
